Today I released OxnaPDF 1.11.18, a PDF reader and editor for Mac, Windows, Linux and the browser. It is free, with no sign-up, subscription or adverts, and it does its work on your own device. Editing the text of a PDF in Adobe Acrobat needs Acrobat Standard, at £178.85 a year prepaid on Adobe's UK site; in OxnaPDF it costs nothing.

OxnaPDF runs on its own PDF engine and works where your AI does. It has OxnaAI built in, with no sign-in, and it can use your own ChatGPT or Claude account or a model running offline on your computer. OxnaPDF also works inside ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Gemini CLI and Antigravity, so an assistant can open, read and change a PDF for you. Every change is a preview that you approve.

  4. 4. SaveA new copy; the original is never changed

What is in it

OxnaPDF edits the text already on a page, converts to and from Word, Excel and PowerPoint, recognises text in scans, organises, merges, splits and compresses pages, fills and creates forms, and signs. A redaction is saved only after OxnaPDF has read the new copy back and found the removed words nowhere in it. The app comes in ten languages, and 51 OxnaPDF tools run in the browser.

Fast and light

On the same Mac, the app was quiet 2.5 seconds after opening a four-page PDF; Adobe Acrobat took 21.0 seconds. It takes 300 MB on disk against Acrobat's 1.7 GB, and it leaves nothing running after you quit.

Get it

Download it from oxna.ai/pdf/download. The Mac and Windows apps are not yet signed with Apple and Microsoft certificates, so your computer will warn you the first time you open the app; on a Mac, choose Open Anyway in System Settings, Privacy and Security. How OxnaPDF is put together, how its AI handles your documents and how it was measured against Acrobat are on the project page.
